Census, Mrs Jenkins

Sir,

The Enumerator reports to me that when he called on Mrs Inez Milwyn Jenkins, The Cottage, Largs Road, here, on 3rd current for delivery of the Schedule left on 1st current he found the Schedule fastened to the front door of her house & no one in it, The Schedule has written across the face of it the words "Left home in order to the evade the Census". I called on Mrs Jenkins in terms of the instructions & she informs me no one slept in her house on the night of Sunday 2nd inst. she advises me she left this Parish with a train at 4.26 on 1st inst. & returned with a train due at 7.14 PM on 3rd inst. In reply to my queries as to where she had been & if she had been enumerated elsewhere she stated she had no responsibility for any other house than her own & would not give me further information. She produced to me a copy of the publication "Votes for Women" by the advice in which she said she was going. I shall be glad to have you instructions in the matter.

Your obed Servt.
William Gray Registrar
