Household and Dwelling Estimates - Other Geographies, 2024

Household Estimates provide data on the number and percentage of dwellings which are occupied, vacant, unoccupied exemptions, long-term empty, second homes, occupied and exempt from paying council tax, or that are receiving a ‘single adult’ Council Tax discount. The estimates are available for each year for 2014 onwards.

Dwelling Estimates provide data on the number and characteristics of dwellings including Council Tax Band, type of dwelling, number of rooms per dwelling and number of dwellings per hectare. (Data for years after 2017 on type of dwelling and number of rooms are not yet available for publication.)

Estimates of households and dwellings for the following geographies are created by aggregating the information for Data Zones:

Estimates for the 355 electoral wards created by aggregating Data Zones to the 2023 electoral ward boundaries.

The 73 constituencies correspond to those defined for the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections. Each Data Zone has been assigned to a constituency based on a ‘best-fit’ basis. Where a Data Zone crosses the boundary of two (or more) constituencies it was assigned to the constituency containing the population-weighted centroid of the Data Zone.

The constituency boundaries and names correspond to those defined for the 2024 UK Parliament elections. Parliamentary constituencies may change from one election to the next. A constituency in the 2024 elections may have a different boundary from one with the same name in earlier elections. These estimates show how households and dwellings have changed over time. They are created from aggregating Data Zone household and dwelling estimates where each Data Zone has been assigned to a constituency based on a ‘best-fit’ basis. Where a Data Zone crosses the boundary of two (or more) constituencies it was assigned to the constituency containing the population-weighted centroid of the Data Zone.

The estimates are based on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) 2020. Levels of deprivation in an area change over time. The most deprived Data Zones in 2020 may not have been the most deprived ones in, say, 2011. These household and dwelling estimates show how the household and dwelling statistics in the SIMD 2020 deciles have changed over time.

The estimates are based on the Scottish Government urban rural classification 2020.

These estimates are created by aggregating 2011 Data Zones to Scottish Island Regions. More information about Scottish Island Regions can be found on the Scottish Government website.

Household and dwelling estimates for the two National Parks in Scotland: Cairngorm National Park and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. These estimates are created by aggregating up postcode level information on households and dwellings.
