Main Points
- Net migration into Scotland in the year to mid-2024 remained high (+56,400 people); however, it was lower than the previous year (+77,500 people).
- Total migration into Scotland is a combination of international migration and migration from other parts of the UK.
- International net migration has decreased from +63,500 people in the year to mid-2023 to +42,600 people in the year to mid-2024 (the same level as in the year to mid-2022). While net international migration has fallen in the latest year, it still remains historically high.
- Average net migration from other parts of the UK has been fairly stable over the last decade, averaging around +10,000 people. It was higher in the year to mid-2023, at +13,900 people, and the year to mid-2024 at 13,800 people.
- Estimates for mid-2023 have been revised to take into account the latest long-term international migration figures. Provisionally published figures estimated net international migration for the year to mid-2023 as +47,700 people; this has now been revised to +63,500 people.
