Multi-Lingual Translation Aids

Multi-Lingual Translation Aids

Following the introduction of a new EU regulation promoting the free movement of documents, NRS is able to offer a new Multi-Lingual Translation Aid service for extracts from the birth, death, marriage and civil partnership registers, as well as Certificates of No Impediment for both marriage and civil partnership.  Translation Aids are not new extracts (or ‘certificates’), but produced to accompany an existing extract – for instance, a Scottish birth certificate – or where an extract is not available, an extract newly-purchased from either NRS’s Extract Services or a local authority register, to assist with the reception of that certificate in another EU country by translating key data fields within it.  This will prevent the need to obtain a separate translation of the document.

The Translation Aid comes with a glossary section in the relevant EU language, and NRS will charge a fee of £10 (equivalent to the cost of an extract) for the Translation Aid.  Where a new extract is required, the existing fee for that extract will also need to be paid.  As with the production of extracts by NRS, a range of paid postal options will be available to return the Translation Aid, and your existing or newly-purchased certificate.

If you wish to use this service, please e-mail NRS at the following address: MLTA@nrscotland.gov.uk
