Multi-Lingual Translation Aids (MLTA)
Multi-Lingual Translation Aids (MLTA)
Under Regulation (EU) 2016/1191, starting from early 2019, customers could request an MLTA for an entry held in our birth, death, marriage and civil partnership registers upon application and payment of a fee. A Certificate of No Impediment (CONI) could also be translated upon request.
However, following the UK’s exit from the European Union (EU), National Records of Scotland (NRS) are no longer able to provide these translation aids to customers.
Furthermore, any MLTA purchased and received prior to the UK’s exit from the EU may no longer be regarded as valid by some authorities. It is a matter for each individual EU member state to determine as to whether or not they will accept MLTAs previously issued by NRS.
Our team is currently working from home with limited access to our offices. As such, we have no access to applications and certificates that were received by us prior to the commencement of lockdown or throughout the pandemic period. Certificates currently in our offices will be returned as soon as we have access to our offices to do so.
If you any questions regarding this service, please e-mail NRS at the following address: [email protected].
