I want to register a Civil Partnership abroad. What documents will I need to provide?

You should contact the Consulate/Embassy for the relevant country for advice on what documentation will be required.

A Certificate of No Impediment (CONI) is only available for a civil partnership which is being registered in England or Wales.

Couple intending to register their civil partnership elsewhere who require proof of status may wish to apply for a ‘To Whom It May Concern’ letter in place of a CONI.

Please contact civilpartnership@nrscotland.gov.uk for further advice about obtaining a “To Whom It May Concern” letter from National Records of Scotland.
