The number of forenames given in 2001 is summarised in the chart below. Eighty-four per cent of boys and seventy-six per cent of girls registered in 2001 have more than one forename.

There is evidence that traditional names were used more frequently for second names. For boys the three most popular second names were James, John and Alexander; for girls, they were Louise, Elizabeth and Jane.
