Section 3: Births
Information about the basis of these statistics is available from the Vital Events – General Information and the Births – Background Information pages of this website.
Revision of birth rates and fertility rates, and removal of the breaks in the time-series of those rates that were caused by the rebasing of population estimates to use the results of the 2011 Census
Tables 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7(a), 3.7(b) and 3.7(c) were replaced, on 19 February 2014, by versions giving revised rates for the years from 2002 to 2011 (or for the appropriate birth cohorts) which were calculated using the 'rebased' mid-year population estimates. Until then, the versions of these tables that were available had breaks in the time-series. More information about this is given on the Birth and deaths rates: breaks in series circa 2011 page of this website. More statistics on births is available from the Births Time-Series section.
