Vital Events Reference Tables 2023

These tables give the numbers of Vital Events for 2023. They provide the same kind of information as was contained in the pre-2001 Registrar General's Annual Reviews, plus additional details that have been added in recent years.

Population estimates for 2022, as well as rebased population estimates for 2011 to 2021 were published earlier in 2024. Rates (including total fertility rates) for the relevant years have been updated to reflect these new population estimates and may therefore differ from those previously published.

The 2023 Reference Tables incorporate a new method for calculating excess deaths, adopted by statistical agencies across the UK in February 2024. More information about this can be found in the methodology paper on the ONS website.
