Population Projections - The Practice in England & Wales
Population Projections - The Practice in England & Wales
28 November 2005
Richard Pereira, Office for National Statistics (ONS)
The Office for National Statistics produces subnational population projections for England down to local authority level. These projections are fully consistent with the National Population Projections produced by the Government Actuary's Department, and take the latest ONS mid year population estimates as a starting point.
This presentation provided an overview of the methodology used to produce the subnational projections covering all of the components of change. It outlined some of the uses to which the projections are put and also described some of the issues and difficulties involved in their production. Finally it touched on some of the future developments that are being considered in light of these issues.
