Terms and conditions of supply

The UK Government Licencing Framework (National Archives website) provides an overview of the arrangements for licencing the use and re-use of public sector information in the public sector.

Off the shelf National Records of Scotland (NRS) geography data is free and anyone can use the data in any format or medium under the terms of the Open Government Licence (National Archives website) but the following exceptions apply in respect of NRS digital Postcode boundaries and the Postcode Index with Postcode Address File (PAF) information included where separate supply and licencing arrangements apply. Please contact NRS Geography Customer Services at the e-mail address below if you require further information.

NRS Geography produces a number of products which include the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of other organisations and users should be aware of third party rights and any need for licences. In these cases the appropriate attribution/copyright statements should be used.

The following licences are required for each category of product issued by NRS Geography complete with the appropriate attribution/copyright statement:

NRS digital boundaries or reference maps

Digital boundary products and reference maps (with the exception of NRS postcode boundaries including PAF information) are supplied under the Open Government Licence (National Archives website) and Ordnance Survey OpenData Licence (Ordnance Survey website). The following copyright statements must be used when reproducing or using this material:

Contains Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right [year]

NRS digital postcode boundaries that include PAF information

Free access to this dataset is restricted to members of the One Scotland Mapping Agreement (OSMA) (Ordnance Survey website). You may re-use this information (not logos) free of charge in any format or medium under the terms of the Non-Commercial Open Government Licence (National Archives website). Other customers should contact NRS Geography Customer Services for advice.

For Postcode boundaries with PAF information included the following statement should also be added:

Incorporates data from PAF ® the copyright in which is owned by Royal Mail Group Limited and/or Royal Mail Group plc

Index and lookup products are supplied under the Open Government Licence (National Archives website) and the following copyright statements must be used when reproducing or using this material:

Copyright and reproduction

You may re-use the information (not including logos) free of charge in any format or medium, under the terms of the Open Government Licence (National Archives website). However, the following attribution statement must be acknowledged or displayed on any product using NRS data:
