Communal Establishment Information

The National Records of Scotland (NRS) is responsible for conducting the census in Scotland and planning is well underway for Scotland’s Census 2021.

As part of our preparations NRS is producing a comprehensive directory of addresses including detailed information on Communal Establishments (CE). These are managed residential accommodation where there is full-time or part-time supervision of the accommodation.

The information we require includes email addresses. These will be used to contact the Communal Establishment to find out key information such as numbers of usual residents and bed spaces. This information is essential for planning fit for purpose approaches for the collection of data from these establishments in the 2021 Census. We will store these email addresses until the end of the Census data collection phase in May 2021.
