Legislation

These pages set out the main primary and secondary legislation which have a significant impact on records in Scotland. The legislation shown refers not only to records held by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) but also to records held in other archives. We have included information on

All Acts passed from 1988 onwards are available on the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) website, where they are shown as passed and do not include subsequent amendments. In most cases, where the information given on legislation relates to an Act of 1988 or later, a link is given to the copy of that Act on The Office of Public Sector Information site.

Where we show pre-1988 Acts or only the relevant parts of an Act, these incorporate amendments made by subsequent legislation. The amendments have been taken from the Statutory Publications Office Statute Law Database and the material is Crown Copyright. Although we are satisfied that we have identified the majority of amendments up to 1 January 2003, we cannot guarantee that the coverage is fully comprehensive. More information on the statute law database can be found in the publications section of the Department for Constitutional Affairs website.

We want this area to be as useful as possible, and would therefore welcome information about further amendments to the Acts shown or suggestions for additional Acts to include. Any comments can be sent to us using our mailbox at: [email protected]
