Marriage Fees In Scotland – What Would You Pay?

Statutory fees for civil, religious or belief marriages 

With effect from 1 May 2022, the fees set by the Registrar General by Act of Parliament are as follows: 

  • Marriage Notice – per person submitting a notice of marriage to the district registrar    £45
  • Solemnisation of a civil marriage    £55

A civil marriage at the statutory fee allows for both parties to the marriage and their two witnesses to attend, as required by the law.

  • Marriage certificate purchased within one month of your marriage registration    £10
  • Marriage certificate purchased more than one month after the marriage registration    £15

Payment should be made to your registration office who will advise you of the payment methods.

  • Marriage Notice – Party One    £45
  • Marriage Notice – Party Two    £45
  • Statutory civil marriage fee    £55
  • Marriage Certificate    £10
  • Total    £155
Additional fees for civil marriages

Local authorities may charge additional fees to cover extra costs for:-

  • Accommodating additional guests and use of marriage rooms
  • Attendance of an authorised registrar at places other than their registration offices.

These fees are set by each local authority. Please contact your registrar for details.
