Penalty For Giving False information

Under the provisions of Section 53(1) of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Scotland) Act, 1965, any person who knowingly gives to a district registrar, or the Registrar General, information which is false in a material particular shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable

  1. on conviction on indictment, to a FINE or to IMPRISONMENT for a term not exceeding 2 YEARS or to BOTH;
  2. on summary conviction, to a FINE not exceeding the prescribed sum or to IMPRISONMENT for a term not exceeding 3 MONTHS or to BOTH.
